L&L Magazine Cover Bring Alive On Cosmo Synthetic Paper

Recently, Cosmo Films came together with Labels & Labeling Magazine and brought their magazine cover alive with Cosmo Synthetic Paper (CSP). The superior printing ability of CSP allowed the magazine cover to feature a unique design, which was the biggest challenge for any brand using synthetic paper. The seamless converting & print compatibility of paper helped them in overcoming the design complications. The paper allowed the designers to print even the extremely complex design by eliminating all the limitations. Let us see how.

L&L Magazine Cover Design

The magazine cover design required a great print quality & foil stamping to emphasize one of its whisky label articles featured within. Adam Evans (L&L head designer) brilliantly adapted the design for the magazine to justify the theme & the concern. A paper with hot foil stamping & excellent print capabilities was the only solution that could serve justice to his design. But then a new challenge knocked in.

The Challenge

Hot foil stamping requires the use of heat to apply foil onto the desired substance: Synthetic paper. The problem was the high temperature which can melt the synthetic substrates. James Wenman (L&L production & design manager) says: “We have to do it mindfully as we are printing it on a synthetic, I am not sure if it could be done.” He added, “Some designs cry out for special finishes to bring them alive, after all, synthetics and temperatures aren’t the natural bedfellows.”

So basically, the challenge was to impose a hot foil stamp on a synthetic printed surface. They were also not sure if the printed surface would support it or not.

Secret reveal: How Cosmo Synthetic Paper Helped?

In the UK, L&L chose Cosmo Synthetic Paper to tackle the challenge. They collaborated with Duraseal (a local foil block company) and started trials on printed Cosmo Synthetic paper. As expected, the foil (provided by Folico) adhered perfectly to the printed synthetic paper.

This was the first time a hot foil stamping was done on a synthetic substrate, so the L&L design deviated from the printing traditions. Plus, Cosmo Synthetic Paper did complete justice to the design and served amazing print suitability and quality.

After that, thousands of copies of the L&L magazine have been printed with the process successfully. This step of creating something unique has opened the door of opportunities for thousands of other designers that limit their imagination because of the incompetence of the typical paper.
